Development Authority

The role of the Development Authority of Macon County is to promote, develop and advance economic growth in Macon County and its municipalities. The authority works closely with local industry, the county commissioners, city council members, community leaders and state economic developers to achieve its goal of continuing economic growth.

The Development Authority is responsible for the recruitment of new businesses in the areas of industrial, manufacturing, distribution, corporate and regional headquarters, customer service centers, and offers assistance with other major economic development projects in the county.

Recruitment of industry is a significant function; yet, aiding in existing industry growth and retention is just as significant. Statistics show that 80 percent of new jobs come as a result of existing industry expansion. The Development Authority provides support to existing industries and assists in connecting them with local community for projects, such as facility expansions or workforce development.

Under Georgia law, the Authority may offer incentives, such as tax abatements, to new industries locating in the county and to help existing industries expand. These incentives help recruit new industries and the county benefits by job creation.
