Macon County residents are provided with a variety of health care services ranging form quality care in an acredited community hospital to skilled nursing facilities for seniors who require 24-hour monitoring and medical assistance. The county is also fortunate to have a number of dedicated primary care physicians and specialists in several fields.

Flint River Hospital in Montezuma is a progressive and customer focused hospital designated as one of the top 100 hospitals in the United States. Both the hospital and its medical staff have a reputation and tradition of high quality, fast, efficient and friendly service.

The Macon County Health Department provides its services  to everyone regardless of age, race, religion, national origin, political belief, disability or sex. The health department charges only minimal fees for its services, and some services have adjusted fee scales based on ability to pay. They also accept Medicaid and Medicare.

Macon County also has facilities that offer formal long term care services. Faciities in Marshallvile, Ideal and Montezuma typically provide living accommodation for people who require around-the-clock supervised care, including professional health services, personal care and services such as meals, laundry and housekeeping.
